AAC & Behavior: Strategies for Supporting Communication and Self-Regulation (429)
Thursday July 30, 2026 2:00pm - 2:50pm CDT
Even when AAC systems are available, students may still struggle with regulation, engagement, and challenging behaviors. This advanced training focuses on practical problem-solving strategies for supporting AAC users during moments of dysregulation, resistance, shutdown, sensory overwhelm, and communication breakdowns. Participants will learn how to analyze why AAC may not yet be effective, adapt supports to student needs, and create regulation-focused environments that encourage authentic communication. Through case studies, videos, and collaborative problem-solving, educators will gain tools to move from reactive responses to responsive, communication-centered support.
