The Power of the Visual Non-Glossary: Turning Vocabulary into Conversations (158)
Thursday July 30, 2026 2:00pm - 2:50pm CDT
Participants will explore how the Visual Non-Glossary transforms vocabulary instruction into a student-centered, language-building experience. Educators will examine how carefully designed visuals help students infer meaning, make connections, and participate in rich academic discussions—regardless of their background knowledge or language proficiency. We will engage with sample visuals, practice structured discussion strategies, and explore ways to incorporate the VNG into daily instruction to support equity, academic discourse, and deeper conceptual understanding. By the end of the session, educators will walk away with practical strategies to help students move beyond memorizing definitions to actively using and owning academic vocabulary.
